The moment I walked into the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym I knew that it was right up there with the, currently, better known American 'Fight Factories', such as The James Shuler Memorial Gym in Philadelphia, Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, Kronk in Detroit and Gleason's in New York.
Besides the partners, World class coaches Johnny Eames and Derek Grainger (shown above with their charge former WBU Light Heavyweight World Champion Tony 'Oakey Kokey' Oakey), top UK coaches Brian Lawrence, Jimmy and Mark Tibbs hone their championship fighters to ring perfection.
All three rings had serious top class sparring in action, every bag had a seriously talented fighter beating their pugilistic rhythm - sorry I'm getting carried away now, if you ever get to go there you will understand why.
When Johnny and Derek asked me to help them with promotion and marketing of this magical place and it's talented family of boxers how could I possibly refuse - I mean this is boxing, and boxing publicists, heaven.
My initial brief was to create a a marketing strategy to gain new clients for the gym for the times outside when the pros were training. I was also asked to create a new website, one which would market the gym to the general public. Within days this was extended to many exciting projects, ranging from raising sponsorship for a charity event featuring many of the UK's most famous boxing stars, such as Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, David Haye etc. through to assisting with a televised boxing tournament proposal.
